Up in our gallery for the month of June:
Roses are Red: Art Inspired by Botanical Influences on Human Culture
This group show explores the many ways plants have influenced our lives–from symbolism and aesthetics to architecture and utility–through an interactive experience focused around sight, smell, taste, sound and touch.
Curated by Anjel Van Slyke and Jane Kim, "Roses are Red" ties together a variety of artists in a variety of industries: Christine Pyers who designs California native gardens; Bradley Skaught, a singer, guitarist and songwriter for Oakland-based rock'n'roll band The Bye Bye Blackbirds; Libbey Goldberg, a Bay Area chef and founder of Salt of the Earth; Santiago Giraldo a Columbian born designer based in Oakland; Hannah Berman, designer of unique letterpress cards and founder of Pie Bird Press; Olivia San Mateo, letterpress printer and founder of Olive-Route, a Berkeley-based press specializing in custom design and collaborative projects; Camille Robles, an Oakland based writer, letterpress printer, book artist and co-founder of Crux & Canopy, and more.
Libbey Goldberg will be sharing botanically inspired treats this Friday night at the opening so get there early before they are all gone!
